Surprise Day Off
I just found out that I have tomorrow off. I'm stoked. I think I'm going to pick up Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and make a weekend of sitting on my ass and not doing anything, but hijack cars, sell drugs, and perform drive-by shootings ... all from the friendly confines of my sofa.

World Champions
What a series! My emotions have been running high for the last 11 days. I'm pretty glad its over. Of course, probably not as glad as the city of Boston to have that giant gorilla-like baseball player named Babe Ruth off its back. Phase I of world domination complete.

Curse Schmurse
New England's Reign of world domination has begun. First, the Boston Red Sox will win the World Series. As this will be the first time in 86 years, this is the first sign of the apocalypse. Next, John Kerry, from Massachusetts, will be elected President of the United States. Finally, the New England Patriots will go undefeated through the 2004 NFL season and win the Super Bowl in January about two weeks after Kerry is inaugurated.
I'm just kidding. Actually, I wish I lived in Boston right now. I have been enjoying myself so much lately watching the two biggest teams in professional sports, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
In case you have fallen off the face of the planet, let me fill you in on both of these teams. First, the Patty's have won 21 games in a row, if you count last season! Second, the Red Sox were down three games to zero against the New York Yankees and rallied to win the series. This has never been done in baseball. Also, the Sox have never won a deciding game against the Yankees. Of course, everyone knows the history of the Red Sox and the Curse of the Babe.
My father has been a huge BoSox fan for his whole life. To this day, his favorite sports hero is Ted Williams. Its funny, but growing up I hated the Sox because my dad loved them. For the past three or four years, though, I have been somewhat converted into a Red Sox fan. My favorite team growing up was the Atlanta Braves (because I could watch every game on TBS) and they have developed sort of a disappointing pattern for the last 14 years.
Also, I'd be on the watch for the Celtics dominating in the NBA. Although, this could be a long shot.

Kiss De Girl
Have you ever gone in to kiss a girl for the "first kiss" and have her not expect it, only to shudder, either in fear of you or fear of the first kiss, groan and turn her head away?
Yeah, that would suck ... not that I know or anything.

Michael Moore
Guess what I'm going to be doing at noon tomorrow? I'm seeing Michael Moore at UVSC.
I'm really excited.
First of all, he's a great speaker. He's entertaining. He's informative. He's motivating. I understand he has some very strong opinions. I understand that many consider him a liar. But I consider him to be equivalent to Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh They all take the facts and "spin" them to support their opinions and agendas.
I believe it is up to each individual to then do research, verify the facts, evaluate one's morals and beliefs and then decide which side you feel more comfortable with.
I tend to gravitate more toward the "left" or liberal side. I feel that things like abortion and homosexuality are each individual's rights as defined by the Constitution. I don't necessarily agree with them, in fact, maybe I should say outright that I don't agree with them. But I also don't agree that in our country, which was started on the foundation of being free for all to lead the life of their choice, we shouldn't create legislation based on morals and beliefs.
Second of all, I love to "rock the boat." His speech is going to be in one of the most conservative cities in the country. There will no doubt be several hundred protesters yelling and jeering the attendees. Because I have grown up in the minority here in Utah, I love to see the ruckus that is caused by breaking out from the norm. People here, tend to get vehemently angry when anyone questions the system. I have my theories on why this is so, but that is another post that I don't know if I'll ever write.
Third, I'm going because I know (okay maybe not know, but feel) that Michael Moore will never again return to Utah to speak. For this reason alone, I wanted to make sure I am going.
I'll let you all know what I think later.
Here's a link to the live internet feed if you'd like to catch it. It starts at noon, don't be late!
Also, here's an intersting article justifying Micheal Moore coming to speak.

B Is For Busy
I hate being busy at work. I have a massive stack of papers that needs to be scanned and all I want to do is write about how its my 26th birthday today and I just want to go outside and soak up whatever is left of the sun before it goes into hibernation for the winter.

Happy Anniversary!
Holy shit! I totally forgot, but I'm 3 days late wishing myself a Happy First Anniversary. I thought about it last week, but let the day slide by without mentioning it. Over the last year, I've had up and down months posting. I've turned 25 years old. I've gotten three girlfriends and subesquently lost them. The longest of which I possibly could say I had for two months. I've celebrated my one year anniversary of working at my job, my one year anniversary of graduating from college. I bought a new car, got glasses and moved in with one of my longest best-friends.
FYI, I've written 204 posts and received 201 comments to this point.
Here's to Year 2!

Irony
About an hour ago, I got the following email from my stepmother.
Subject: Info on social security you'll want to know
SOCIAL SECURITY:
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be
completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into
the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to
put into the Program would be deductible from their
income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the
independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the
General operating fund, and therefore, would only be
used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program,
and no other Government program, and,
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees
would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent "Trust" fund and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically-controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the "tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
MY FAVORITE :
A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during this 2004 election year!
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.
How many people can YOU send this to?
Keep this going clear up through the 2004 election!! We need to be heard!
When it comes to politics, I never believe anything until I have done a little research and formed an opinion of my own. So, I took one question and googled it.
The first link was this one. If you follow that link it takes you to a page hosted by the Social Security Administation entitled "Debunking Some Internet Myths."
My point here is not to rub it in my stepmother's face, or to prove that Democrats are right and Republicans are wrong. My point is that all one has to do is search the internet, carefully screen sources and take ownership of their beliefs.
I wrote back quite a pointed email to my stepmother too. Some may think I am acting disrespectfully to her, but I felt she would be ok with it. My response to her is below.
I googled one of your questions and I came up with these links:
http://www.ssa.gov/history/InternetMyths.html
http://www.ssa.gov/history/InternetMyths2.html
Yes, thats right, its the Social Security Administrations website.
I think this is somewhat ironic because as your email stated, "And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!"
It seems that you are the one who is misinformed and simply spreading lies and spin. I try to stay neutral, but informed and I never believe anything until I have researched it. I strongly encourage you to do the same. Also, you should send this to whoever sent it to you and to everyone you forwarded it on to.
My advice for you dear reader in this election season is this: research, be informed, don't just listen to what the pundits and media are saying. HEAR what they are saying and then go out and find out if they are right. Question everything … until you know better.

YeeHaw! Weekend Roundup Pardner
I went home early from work on Friday. I had a headache. Actually, I had a headache for most of last week. It was a really rough week for me. But I slept in on Saturday and took naps both days, so I feel pretty good today.
Today, I got the first two seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm on DVD that I ordered last week. I can't wait to watch these again. I haven't seen them since they were on TV for the first time.
On Saturday I went with my roommate Erik to a store called Dancing Cranes that I've been wanting to go to. It's sort of an Asian place that sells things from rugs and lamps to stationery and pens. I went because I wanted to buy one of those asian rice paper balls to make into a lamp. I got one and it looks pretty cool hanging in my living room.
Last night, after meeting a couple of friends at Noodles and Co. I decided to head home early and stopped at Blockbuster and picked up Mean Girls on DVD. Its pretty hilarious. Tina Fey wrote it, so I knew it would be funny.
